A COIN Exclusive!! ‘Dhanush would apologise profusely every time he had to hit me in Maari’

Many know actor Kalloori Vinod as Adi Thaangi in Director Balaji Mohan’s Maari, featuring Dhanush in the lead.

Vinod is widely considered to be a gifted actor. In fact, many would agree that the young and upcoming actor along with actor Robo Shankar is one of the main reasons why the Maari franchise is so endearing. Dhanush too stressed on this fact recently. At a press meet organised by the Maari 2 team, Dhanush said that the youngster is a gifted actor who hasn’t got the recognition that is due to him yet.

However, what many do not know about the man who plays Maari’s second most important sidekick character is that in real life, he is just the exact opposite of what he plays on screen in the film. In the film, Vinod’s character Adi Thaangi serves as a punching bag to Dhanush’s character Maari.

Kalloori Vinod says that in real life, he is someone who believes in being upright and therefore he is someone who will also not hesitate to question injustice.

Talking exclusively to CineObserver.in, Vinod smiles and says, “In real life, I am the exact opposite of my character Adi Thaangi in the film. I will react instantly and sharply to developments.” Does this mean, he doesn’t hesitate to raise his arm against those being unjust? The actor laughs and says, “I don’t hit anyone. I am someone who strongly believes that I shouldn’t commit a mistake or break a law. So, when we are like that we tend to question people who commit mistakes.I am someone who believes in questioning people when they are in the wrong.”

Playing someone whose nature is the exact opposite of one’s real life nature is always difficult and Vinod too agrees.

“Initially, I found it difficult to become get into this character. Even when my dad hit me, I did not know to react as a kid. So, this was something new to me when it came to acting. To be honest, I never knew that people would love this character so much and respect it when I did it. However, every time, I had to receive a blow in the film, even before I could feel the blow, Dhanush sir would come and tell me, ‘Sorry, when I do this, you might slightly feel the blow. I am sorry.” Then again, after the shot, Dhanush sir would come and again apologise after the shot as well. He was extremely sweet and I would feel bad about him apologising so many times for a shot. Every single time he had to hit me in the film, he would apologise profusely.”

Not many know that Vinod is a theatre artiste and was also into scriptwriting. He shot to limelight with his role in Balaji Sakthivel’s Kalloori and hence, the title Kalloori Vinod. The young actor is delighted with the break that Maari has given him and is extremely grateful to everybody including director Balaji Mohan and actor Dhanush for the opportunity.
