I have sold my car to pay off debts, says Vidarth

Actor Vidarth, whose latest film with director Bharathirajaa, Kurangu Bommai has emerged a hit, recently opened up at a press conference on how the ace director has been helping him battle tough times….

Actor Vidarth, who has delivered several hit films including the blockbuster Mynaa, says director Bharathirajaa, who acted with him in Kurangu Bommai, took care of him like his son while working on the film.

The actor, who was participating in a function organised by the team of Kurangu Bommai to thank the media for their support in making the film a roaring hit, said, “I have always wanted to talk about director Bharathirajaa but haven’t had the opportunity to do so until now. Getting an opportunity to act with him was  something which made me really happy. The scenes in which we appear together were filmed in just one day. But I would go there to be with him for ten days while we were shooting for the film. He would take care of me like his own son and share several important pieces of information.

Giving more details about how the opportunity for this film came his way, the actor said, “It was the time that I had finished Kuttrame Thandanai. I had to pay off debts. I did not have any money with me and I was facing a financial crisis. It was then that that I got a call from director Bharathirajaa. I was in a situation where I had to make a payment the next day to my debtors and I didn’t want a situation where my debtors would be posing questions to me. When I attended that call, director Bharthirajaa told me that he was doing a film and that he would pay me an amount as fee for my role in it. He asked me if I was okay with the salary. The amount he said he would pay me as my fee was actually the amount that I owed my debtors. I was surprised. I do not know how he knew that I needed that money. I immediately agreed.

“I thought that if I got some money as advance from director Bharthirajaa, I would pay the debtors that amount and pay the remaining money that I owed them within a fortnight. Director Bharathirajaa said that he would send me a cheque and the script for the film Kurangu Bommai. When I took a look at the cheque, I was delighted. He had paid my entire salary in that single cheque!,” a visibly moved Vidarth said.

“I cannot forget this act of his for life. If he hadn’t given me that money that day, I would have been put to shame the next day. I had nothing left at that point with me,” the actor confessed.

“The next day, I headed off to Pudukottai, where the shooting was to take place, in a car. Mind you, it was a car that he provided. I do not have a car now. I had to sell off my car to pay off debts. It was Bharathirajaa sir who gave me his car. By the time we reached Pudukottai, it was 10 in the night. Bharathirajaa sir welcomed me and asked if I had finished dinner. He then wanted to take a look at my room and asked his assistants to show him my room. He inspected my room and said that the bathroom wasn’t clean and asked if whether there were other good hotels. He then took me in his car to a friend’s place, made me have dinner. He then ensured I had good accomodation and only then retired for the night at 12.30 in the morning.

“The way he has been looking after me – from that day till this time – is heart moving. I have been with him for the last nine months now. Even after we finished shooting this film, he let me have his car as I did not have one. I have been using his car until this point. I am going to buy a car only now. When my wife had gone to her place to deliver our child, I was, for the most part, staying only at director Bharathirajaa’s house. I don’t know how to describe the consideration and compassion he had for me. All that he did for me  made him someone really close to my heart. If I got an opportunity to move with a person like him, it was because of this film Kurangu Bommai. Therefore, I would like to thank the Kurangu Bommai team and director Nithilan for giving me this opportunity.”
