Director Shankar has put to rest questions being asked about the fitness level of the lead character Senapathi in the film Indian 2, which is to release on July 12.

Recently, some netizens had raised the question as to how the character of Senapathy, who must be over a 100 years, was so agile and able to practise the martial art of Varmam.

Director Shankar answered this question at a recent press conference held by the Indian 2 team.

Shankar said, “I didn’t know I would be making a second part when I made Indian 28 years ago. During the first part, we had to show the date of birth of Senapathy as it was required for a police investigation scene. Taking into consideration various factors such as Independence Date, we came up with a date. But at that point, we did not know that we would be making a second part after so many years. Now, a lot of questions on the age of the character are coming up.”

Citing the case of Chinese martial artist Lu Zijian, Shankar said, “There is a grand master of martial arts in China called Lu Zijian, who was able to do martial arts even when he was 118 years old. The character of Senapathi is also like that. He is a grandmaster in varmam. All these martial artists are disciplined and have good food habits. For such disciplined grandmasters, age is not a factor at all.”
