Analysis:
Kitti attempts to work as a crime thriller, but the film ultimately turns out to be a mediocre outing, weighed down by several lapses in logic and an uneven narrative.
One of the film’s biggest problems is the way its story is narrated. The screenplay reveals information in a manner that can leave the audience confused rather than intrigued. Instead of building suspense naturally, the narration often makes it difficult to follow the proceedings and understand the motivations behind certain events. The numerous logical inconsistencies further weaken the impact of the story.
The performances are another mixed bag. Most of the actors appear amateurish, which makes several scenes feel less convincing than they should. However, there are a few performances that work. Ashok, in the lead role, puts in a decent performance and manages to hold the film together in places. Arvind Raj, who plays the doctor, is another bright spot, delivering a more assured performance and making his character stand out.
Despite these positives, the film’s shortcomings in writing, narration, logic and performances prevent it from making the desired impact. As a crime thriller, Kitti has the ingredients for an engaging story, but the execution falls short.
Verdict: Kitti does not quite make the cut as an effective crime thriller.
