Nooru Kodi Vaanavil turns out to be nothing more than old wine in a new bottle. One is genuinely surprised that a film of this nature comes from a director as celebrated as Sasi. Audiences who have watched his earlier films, particularly Pichaikkaran and Sivappu Manjal Pachai, know the kind of cinema he is truly capable of creating. Unfortunately, Nooru Kodi Vaanavil is nowhere near those standards and ends up being a huge disappointment.
What adds to the disappointment is that Sasi has managed to put together a reasonably good star cast that includes Harish Kalyan and Siddhi Idnani. However, even this advantage cannot salvage a story that feels hopelessly outdated.
The film revolves around a man who falls in love with a girl who, unfortunately for him, is already in love with someone else. As is customary in such stories, we are led to believe that the man the girl loves is actually no match for her and that the hero is the person most suited to her. This age-old premise has simply been repackaged and presented as a romantic love story.
Needless to say, the plot is an insipid one that fails to strike a chord or draw you into the characters’ lives. There is little freshness in the way the story unfolds, making it difficult to become invested in the romance.
On the technical front, however, there are a couple of positives. Cinematographer Prasanna Kumar captures some lovely visuals, while Siddhu Kumar provides some mellifluous music that adds a degree of charm to the proceedings.
On the whole, Nooru Kodi Vaanavil is a run-of-the-mill romantic drama that offers very little in terms of entertainment or satisfaction. Considering the quality of cinema Sasi has delivered in the past, this one falls dismally short of expectations.
