Looking to end the raging debate over actor Vijay Sethupathi’s decision to play him in his official biopic, 800, Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidharan has now requested actor Vijay Sethupathi to drop the project.
Looking to end the raging debate over actor Vijay Sethupathi’s decision to play him in his official biopic, 800, Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidharan on Monday requested actor Vijay Sethupathi to drop the project.
The actor too, heeding to the request, chose to walk out of the project.
On Monday afternoon, Muthiah Muralidharan, in a statement in Tamil, said, “I am issuing this statement in the wake of some controversies created by some in Tamil Nadu over the making of my biopic, 800.
“I am aware of the fact that some people, who have a wrong impression about me, have been putting immense pressure on actor Vijay Sethupathi asking him to withdraw himself from my biopic 800. I do not wish for one of Tamil Nadu’s finest artistes to suffer on my count. Not just that, keeping in mind the fact that there shouldn’t be unnecessary obstacles thrown in his artistic journey in future as well, I request him to refrain from doing this film.
“I have never been put off by challenges every time I have come across them. I have been able to make it to this stage only by facing them and winning them. I agreed to the idea of making my story into a film in the hope that it would serve as an inspiration to future generations and young cricketers. I had hoped that it would motivate them and help them be determined.
“I am hopeful that the makers will overcome this challenge too and ensure that this film is made and taken to the masses. The production house has given me an assurance that they will make an announcement in this regard soon. Under these circumstances, I too give an assurance that I will provide complete support to all their efforts in this regard.
“Under these circumstances, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who had extended their support to me. I thank friends from the media, politicians, Tamil film industry, fans of actor Vijay Sethupathi, the public and in particular the Tamil people for their support to me.”
Soon after Muralidharan issued the statement, Vijay Sethupathi posted his statement on his twitter account with the words, ‘Nandri, Vanakkam’ meaning, ‘Thank you. Vanakkam.’
