I tortured Sasikumar during Nandan’s shoot: Director Era Saravanan
“I put him through such difficult sequences that he must have felt, ‘I should never ever offer to help another person who is in distress.’ I tortured him so much during the final phase of shooting. In fact, I made him receive blows from a crowd full of villagers’,” Saravanan said.
Director Era Saravanan, whose upcoming film Nandan, featuring actors Sasikumar and Balaji Sakthivel in the lead is all set to hit screens on September 20 this year, says that he tortured actor-director Sasikumar so much during the final phase of shooting of the film that he was certain the actor would have now made up his mind not to help anybody else in the future.
The journalist-turned-director said, “Actually, I had written this story for another hero. However, as those whom we approached for this film did not show interest in the project, we hit a roadblock. Looking to lend me a helping hand, actor Sasikumar, whom I consider my elder brother and backbone, offered to do the role himself. Nobody else would have been that generous.
“How respectfully I should have treated such a person while filming? Well, I was just the opposite. I put him through such difficult sequences that he must have felt, ‘I should never ever offer to help another person who is in distress.’ I tortured him so much during the final phase of shooting. In fact, I made him receive blows from a crowd full of villagers. He has put his all in this film for our sake. This film is based on a true incident I witnessed. I wanted to portray the event exactly as it took place and that is why I had to shoot it that way.”
The film, which is based on the evils of casteism, features well known director Balaji Sakthivel in the role of a politician. The film also features Samuthirakani, Bigg Boss fame Suruthi Periyasamy in pivotal roles.
Music for the film is by Ghibran and cinematography is by Charan.
