After Rajini and Kamal, Directors’ Union condemns Thoothukudi firing incident

The Tamil Film Directors Union too has joined the likes of actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in strongly condemning the brutal firing incident in Thoothukudi, in which 13 protestors were killed and over 60 injured.

Well known director Vikraman, who is also the president of the Directors Union, in a statement today said, “We not only express our deepest sympathies to the families of the 13 people killed in police firing in Thoothukudi but also strongly condemn the brutal police act of opening fire on those protesting the expansion of the Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothuthukudi, resulting in the deaths of 13 civilians.

“The people of Thoothukudi have for over 20 years been complaining that they have been losing lives because of the hazardous plant there. We condemn the move to open fire on the protestors instead of giving them a proper solution to their problem.

“A solution to this problem cannot be found through police firing. The only permanent solution to this problem will be shutting down the plant for good with immediate effect. Our association hereby requests the Tamil Nadu government to work towards ensuring this suggestion, ” Vikraman said.
