Ilaiyaraaja scores music at his residence!

Music director Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, for the first time ever, has begun scoring music for a film from his residence.

Yes, around 20 musicians gathered at the Maestro’s residence where they played the notes of the legendary music director as he composed the background score for actor Vijay Antony’s upcoming film, Tamilarasan.

Sources say that it was a live recording session and that in Ilaiyaraaja’s musical career spanning over four decades, this is the first time that he has scored music for a film sitting at home.

Also, Tamilarasan also happens to be the first film in which Ilaiyaraaja has scored music for a music director playing the lead.

The reason why Ilaiyaraaja is scoring music from home is because of an ongoing dispute with Prasad Studio, where he has been scoring music for close to 35 years. Ilaiyaraaja, who was initially scoring music at the AVM studio, chose to conduct his recordings at Prasad a few years later.

A few months ago, the management of Prasad asked Ilaiyaraaja to vacate their premises as they said they had plans  to develop the area. However, several directors and assistant directors took exception to this decision, and protested outside the studio, insisting that the management not ask Ilaiyaraaja not to vacate the premises.

Tamilarasan, which has Vijay Antony and Remya Nambeesan playing the lead, is produced by Kaushalya Rani on behalf of SNS Movies and is being directed by Babu Yogeswaran.
