Kamal announces financial aid of Rs One crore to families of victims!

A day after a shocking crane accident on the sets of director Shankar’s Indian 2 claimed the lives of three people and left 10 others injured, actor Kamal Haasan announced a sum of Rs one crore as financial aid to the families of those who had been killed in the mishap.

As reported by Cineobserver.in, the actor claimed that he had had a close shave with death himself, pointing out that he had been in the exact same spot just seconds before the accident occurred along with the director.

After paying homage at the Kilpauk medical college and hospital to those who had lost their lives in the accident, the actor announced a financial aid of Rs 1 crore to the families of those whose lives were lost and said that this sum would not be enough to compensate them.

Stating that this accident had yet again proved that there hadn’t been as much financial security as there should have been for everybody in the industry, Kamal said that he was making this announcement on a personal basis as he considered cinema his  family.

The actor went on to point out that those in the lower rungs of the film industry did not have as much financial security as they should have and recalled that Assistant Director Krishna, who was also the son-in-law of cartoonist Madhan, had joined the sets of Indian 2 only a couple of days ago.

Lamenting the fact that not everyone in the film industry had insurance cover, Kamal rued the fact that while the film industry indulged in chest thumping over its Rs 100 crore and Rs 200 crore projects, it could not give protection to those in its lower rungs.

He said going forward, efforts must be made to ensure that such mishaps do not recur.
