Kamal Haasan wants Deepika Padukone’s head saved

Actor Kamal Haasan, who has been vocal about his thoughts on issues affecting the country in recent times, has come out strongly in support of actress Deepika Padukone who, along with the director and unit of the team of Padmavati, has come under threat from a Rajput group called the Karni Sena.

Deepika Padukone has played the role of the Rajput queen Padmavati in the film that is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Rajput groups are worried that the film is based on inaccurate facts and that it could portray queen Padmavati in bad light.

Under these circumstances, Kamal took to to Twitter to express his thoughts on the issue. In his typical style, he wrote, “I want Ms Deepika’s head” and after a pause added the word “saved.”

He then urged everybody to respect her head more than her body and her freedom more than her head.

“I want Ms.Deepika’s head… saved. Respect it more than her body. Even more her freedom. Do not deny her that. Many communities have opposed my films. Extremism in any debate is deplorable. Wake up cerebral India. Time to think. We’ve said enough. Listen Ma Bharat.”

The actor’s comments come following an announcement from Meerut that a sum of Rs Five crore would be paid to those who behead Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his film’s protagonist Deepika Padukone. The youngster who made the announcement is among many who believe that the movie Padmavati, which is based on the epic poem Padmavat (1540) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, is inaccurate.
