Several film celebrities from the Tamil film industry have expressed shock and grief over the demise of Anita, a medical aspirant from a poor family who had fought the government’s decision to adopt the NEET system for admission to medical colleges.
Anita, police sources said, committed suicide by hanging after she was not able to get a medical seat under the NEET system. The studious student, it may be recalled, had scored an impressive 1,176 marks out of a possible 1200 marks in the Plus Two exams. However, her score in the NEET exam was not high.
Superstar Rajinikanth expressed his condolences to the family of the student. He tweeted, “What has happened to Anita is extremely unfortunate. My heart goes out to all the pain and agony she would have undergone before taking this drastic step. My condolences to her family.”
Music director and actor G V Prakash too expressed his condolences to the family. He expressed anger at the system for driving a student from a poor family to commit suicide.
Using the hashtag, #NeetKilledAnita, G V Prakash tweeted, “Kazhiparai kooda illadha veetil maruthuva kanavodu pirandha Anita indru illai. Neet therval uyir Ilandha Anithavin maranam adhigaaramum, sattamum serndhu seidha padukolai. (Anita, who was born with a dream to become a doctor in a house that did not even have a restroom, is not with us today. The death of Anita, who was killed because of NEET, was a murder that was jointly committed by power and law.”
Actor Aari too put out the mark sheet of the medical aspirant and expressed his condolences as did several other stars.
