The Tamil theatrical rights of one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year, Mahesh Babu’s Spyder, has been bought by Lyca, the firm that is also producing Superstar Rajinikanth’s Magnum Opus 2.0 along with a number of other films.

Talking to Cineobserver.in, Lyca Creative Director Raju Mahalingam confirmed that the firm had indeed purchased the theatrical rights of the Tamil version of the film, which has been made in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously.

Unconfirmed media reports have been claiming that the film’s rights were bought for a sum of Rs 32 crore. However, Raju politely declined to disclose the amount for which the firm had bought the rights of the film.

The creative director of Lyca said that “Baahubali has shattered the perception that vernacular films will run only in their respective regions. When the content and the director are good, then the film will do well anywhere.”

The film, which is being directed by A R Murugadoss, features Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead and S J Suryah and Bharath as the villains.

The film, which has music by Harris Jayaraj, is scheduled to release all over the world in September 2017.
