Puneet Krishna, the creator of the acclaimed series Mirzapur 2, which is now streaming on the OTT platform Amazon Prime, has tendered an unconditional apology to well known Hindi writer Surender Mohan Pathak.

In a letter that was addressed to Pathak, Puneet Krishna said, “It has been brought to our notice by you that there is a scene in the recently released series -Mirzapur Season 2- which depicts a character named Satyanand Tripathi reading a book named ‘Dhabba’ which has been written by you and this depiction is supplemented with an unrelated voiceover which has hurt your sentiments and the sentiments of your fans and well-wishers.

“We sincerely apologize for the same and would like o convey to you that this was not done with any malicious intent or to tarnish/damage your reputation. We are aware that you are a writer of repute and your work is held in high regard in the world of Hindi crime fiction.

“We would like to assure you that to rectify the situation, as discussed with you and as per your wishes, we will blur the book cover in the scene or remove the VO within a reasonble time of three weeks.

“Once again, please accept our sincerest apologies for inadvertently hurting your sentiments.”

The apology comes in the wake of the senior writer expressing his displeasure over a particular voice over that appears to be reading out a passage from the book in one of the episodes of the series. Interestingly, such a passage does not exist in the book. What has offended the writer is the fact that the passage read out is explicitly sexual and does not exist in the novel.

Pointing out that he had never used sex or violence in any of his books to entice readers, writer Mohan Pathak,in an interview, had expressed concern over this act by the creators, which he said could lead to creating a wrong impression about his life’s work in the minds of several people.

The writer had, therefore, demanded an explanation and an apology from the makers and had threatened to initiate legal action, if the creators refused to comply.
