National Film Awards: Keerthy Suresh wins Best Actress Award for Mahanati

Keerthy Suresh won the Best Actress Award for her stellar portrayal of actress Savithri in the Telugu biopic Mahanati while actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal shared the Best Actor Award for Andhadhun and Uri, The Surgical Strike respectively at the 66th National Film Awards that were announced a few minutes ago.

Mahanati, which was released as Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil, also won the Award under the Best Reginal Feature film category in Telugu. The film also took home the award for Best Costume designer.

The only Tamil film to win an award at the National Film Awards this year was Baram and that too was in the Best Regional Feature Film category. Otherwise, no other Tamil film made it to the Winners’ list. This is strange for Tamil technicians and films are considered to be among the best in the country.

The Hindi film Padmaavat won Awards for Best Music Direction, Best Choreography and Best Male Playback singer (Arijit Singh), while the awards for Best Action and Best Special Effects went to the Kannada film KGF.
