Evanukku Engayo Macham Irrukku, the Tamil remake of the Telugu hit film Guntur Talkies, is an adult comedy that by and large keeps you entertained. The story revolves around Hari (Vimal), a playboy who has fled from London after being harassed by a wealthy nymphomaniac there, and Giri(SingamPuli), a father of two kids who longs for his wife, who has now eloped with a wealthy businessman.

Both Hari and Giri work in a pharmacy by day and turn burglars by night. Their strategy is not to steal anything big or costly in the hope that this will not prompt their victims to go to the police.

Under these circumstances, one day, Surekha (Ashna Zaveri), a girl from Madurai, comes to stay with her relatives who happen to be Hari’s neighbours. Hari immediately falls for her and after some courtship, she too reciprocates his love.

Life is peaceful for a while until one night, Hari and Giri decide to burgle a locked house as always. However, this time, they give in to temptation and do not stop with looting just one locked house and choose to repeat the exercise at another place as well. What is worse is that they break their cardinal rule of not stealing precious items or huge sums of cash. And if that was not enough, both steal huge sums of cash without each other’s knowledge!

Soon, problems arise. Both Hari and Giri find themselves being chased by the police, ruthless gangsters and the nymphomaniac from London and her team. But why are each of these groups after the two? Evannukku Engayo Macham Irrukku gives you the answers.

The Telugu version, Guntur Talkies, was a roaring hit in Andhra Pradesh and director A R Mukesh seems to have managed to capture the essence and the spirit of the original to a large extent in his film.

Remaking an adult comedy isn’t easy for any piece of comedy to work, the crew would have to get their timing right. However, Mukesh succeeds to a big extent in this department, thanks to an efficient cast.

Singam Puli,a wonderful comedian, plays Giri while Vimal, who has already proved with Kalavaani that he is capable of delivering fine performances when it comes to comedy, plays Hari. Together, both artistes do a neat job and carry the film on their shoulders.

One of the biggest strengths of Guntur Talkies was the character of Suvarna, which was played by Rashmi Gautam to perfection. Ashna does an equally good job of reprising her role in this film. The only difference is that Ashna’s character is called Surekha in the Tamil version.

Ashna has an innocent look on the one hand and is yet seductive on the other. The manner in which Surekha seduces Hari is difficult to portray on screen but Ashna does a brilliant job and plays her part to perfection.

Poorna as a police sub inspector Geetha does an outstanding job as well. This is the first time that Poorna is seen playing a cop and she relishes the opportunity.

Anandraj, who plays Annachi the don, provides quite a bit of entertainment. His one-liners and punches are the best in the film. One other character that adds
value to the film is that of Gunfight Kanchana that is played by Miya Rai.

Miya, a relative of Sunny Leone, plays the role of a nymphomaniac with conviction in this film. This film marks her debut in the Tamil film industry and her performance in this film is quite remarkable.

Some sequences in the second half appear long and make the film a little tedious but then, on the whole, the film is by and large funny.
