Review: Venom: The Last Dance
I am someone who believes that even if a hero has to fall, he has to go down all guns blazing. And that exactly is what Venom and Eddie try to do in this exciting thriller called the Last Dance!
Film: Venom
Director: Kelly Marcel
Cast: Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham among others
Rating: 3.5 stars
Director Kelly Marcel’s Venom: The Last Dance, which is the final film in the trilogy, has Tom Hardy returning as Eddie one last time. Expectations were riding high on this final part and to Kelly Marcel’s credit, she does manage to deliver an impressive action entertainer that more or less meets these expectations. The film has a bit of drama, a bit of nostalgia, a bit of humour, loads of action and even a couple of songs!
The story in brief…
This time around, Eddie and Venom are on the run — not just from cops or the army but from a number of alien entities sent down to hunt them as they possess the codex, a key required to free the dark power that created those of Venom’s kind. It is imperative that Eddie and Venom are not captured by these hunters as their capture will mean the release of the lord of darkness and the doom of the universe…
Tom Hardy is just adorable as Eddie. Funny, quick-witted and always trying to be the conscience-keeper of the alien Venom, which is looking for the smallest reason to convince Eddie to let it devour the brains of the humans it comes across.
The conversations between Eddie and Venom are highly entertaining.
The action sequences are aplenty and they all work like magic. Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays the major commading the special forces that are after Eddie and Venom, looks the part. His neat performance adds considerable value to the film. Juno Temple, who plays a scientist in Area 51, which gets decommissioned, delivers what is expected of her. Her role in this one might be minimal but it looks like she may well be the next Marvel superhero, going by the way the film ends.
I don’t want to give too much away but if you are a big Venom fan, the ending might not be to your liking. The title of the film, Venom: The Last Dance, is truly a giveaway. This is not to say that the story ends with this part. The story, for sure, continues but it looks like it certainly is curtains for Venom and Eddie.
I, for one, don’t have any complaints though. I am someone who believes that even if a hero has to fall, he has to go down all guns blazing. And that exactly is what Venom and Eddie try to do.
To cut a long story short, an impressive finish to an interesting trilogy is how I would like to put this one.
