Chennai, Dec 14 (COIN) Director-Actor Ameer, best known for having made several superhits including the National Award winning film ‘Paruthiveeran’ and the critically acclaimed ‘Mounam Pesiyathey’, has now disclosed details of an incident that led actor Suriya to stop talking to him.

Speaking at a pre-release event organised by the makers of his upcoming film, ‘Uyir Tamizhukku’, Ameer said, “It’s been 20 years since I stepped into the film industry with my debut film ‘Mounam Pesiyadhey’. Being in the industry for 20 years itself is a big achievement.

“I still have vivid memories of my first interaction with the press. It happened in the AVM Studio. We were shooting a song for my first film ‘Mounam Pesiyathey’ on the last day and that was when this interaction happened.

“I was seated along with some others including my producer Ganesan and the film’s hero, Suriya. It was my first press meet and I did not know how to deal with the media. I have read of an instance when journalists who had gone to meet former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran had asked him to first offer them seats and then state what he had to state. Therefore, the thought that the media had the right to question a Chief Minister like MGR itself was at the back of my mind.

“I was nervous and began sweating profusely. When a journalist asked me if I had penned the script for Suriya, I told him, ‘No, I penned the script and thought Suriya would be ideal for the role and approached him with it. He agreed.’ Suriya got offended by this reply of mine and left in a huff. After this, Suriya and I did not speak to each other even during the audio release and film’s release. It was only after a few days after the film released that Suriya spoke to me.”
