Will Kamal Haasan join politics?

Actor Kamal Haasan, on Tuesday night, tweeted a poem which has led many to believe that the actor may soon be entering politics…

Actor Kamal Haasan has triggered excitement in the political and film circles of Tamil Nadu by putting out a poem, which many believe may well be an indication of the actor’s inclination to join politics.

Late on Tuesday night, Kamal tweeted a Tamil poem that has now left many wondering in the state if whether he too plans to join politics. The tweet came even as news broke out that the actor was now the official brand ambassador of the Tamil Thalaivas, the team representing Tamil Nadu in the Pro Kabaddi League.

Already, sources close to Superstar Rajinikanth have suggested that he is likely to start his own party and enter politics later this year.

Actor Kamal Haasan has, for the last few days, been under constant pressure with his name being dragged into one controversy or the other.  A few days ago, the Hindu Makkal Katchi lodged a police complaint against Bigg Boss, a television show that Kamal Haasan is hosting. It claimed the show was destroying Indian culture and tradition and demanded that the actor and all the participants in the show be arrested.

Even as Kamal called a press conference to explain his stand on the issue, another controversy erupted in the form of  the National Women’s Commission announcing that it intended to send a notice to the actor demanding an explanation from him as to why he identified a victim of sexual assault by name during the press conference.

The actor, who has been vocal about  corruption in government departments in the state, was again in the news after a senior minister in the Tamil Nadu government took offence to his allegations. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister D Jayakumar alleged that Kamal was indulging in mudslinging against the government and added that they would not keep quiet about it. He also said that Kamal Haasan must enter politics, “if he  had the guts”.

A day after the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister made this statement, Kamal Haasan tweeted the Tamil poem,
“Idithuraippom Yaarum Ini Mannar Illai
Thuditheluvom Manadhalavil Umpol Yaam
Mannarillai
Thotruirundhal Poraali
Mudiveduthaal Yaam Mudhalvar
Adipanivor Adimayaro?
Mudithuranthor Thotravaro?
Poda Mooda Enalam Adhu Thavaru
Thedaa Paathaigal Thenpadaa.
Vaada Thozha Ennudan
Moodamai Thavirkka Munaivarae Thalaivar

Anbudan
Naan.”

The poem, when translated means, “Let us forcefully state that nobody is king. In my heart, I rise swiftly, I am not a king like you. If I have lost, I am a fighter. If I make a decision, I am the chief minister. Are those who obey, slaves? Are those who give up the crown, losers? Get away moron could be said. But that would be wrong. Those paths which aren’t searched for cannot be seen. Come along with me comrade. He who looks to shun foolishness is the leader.
Love
Me.

The tweet, needless to say, has got everybody’s attention, with many wondering if whether Kamal is tweeting his intention to enter politics.
