Bigg Boss contestant’s wedding sans Mangalsutra triggers storm on social media!

Vaishnavi Prasad, who shot to fame after she became a Bigg Boss (Tamil) contestant last year, wed her boyfriend of three years at a simple ceremony in Besant Nagar in the city a week ago.

However, the Bigg Boss contestant has triggered a storm on social media, with several people taking exception to the manner in which the ‘wedding’  happened without a mangalsutra/thaali or the exchange of rings between partners.

While those criticising her are great in number, an equal number of people seem to be extending support to the contestant and her boyfriend as well.

Both sides are vehemently clashing with one another on social media.

Vaishnavi, who posted pictures of her wedding with her boyfriend Anjan on social media, said they had kept the wedding a simple and closed affair.

She said, “As some of you may know I got married this morning to a very wonderful man I have been with for the last 3 years, @a_flyguy. Neither of us wanted a wedding because of what a colossal waste of money it can be. Our families decided they wanted a small celebration, so we agreed. I insisted we would DIY as much of the wedding as possible. Which meant a ridiculously large amount of planning. We decided on a small cocktail party with very close friends and family, and a simple temple wedding with even closer friends and family

“The cocktail party took place yesterday at a very small, intimate venue in the city with our closest family and friends, some music, some speeches and a lot of fun. I planned the look and set up the whole venue.

“Lights, tables and all I DIYed the center pieces for the table to sit with the theme colours of Bougainvillea + Gold, put out thank you cards and painted a sign. I also made a bunch of candy packets with nostalgia candy like pan pasand, melody, and phantom cigarettes for everyone to take home. We had tattoos for everyone. Of course we had a gold and white cake, made by @AdoniyaAcademy, which was ridiculously delish. The party was amazing, with karaoke, speeches and a lot of dancing.

“Today, we went ahead and had a simple ceremony at the gorgeous Ashtalakshmi Temple in Besant Nagar. Neither of us is religious, but we couldn’t have picked a better place to do this for the happiness of our families.

“Wanting to keep it simple, I wore a blue soft silk saree that belonged to my grandmother, with an elegant blouse and Anjan wore a fabindia shirt with a pattu veshti. The ceremony lasted all of 10 minutes with us just exchanging garlands and being blessed by the elders. Then we posed for some photos, walked around the temple and went home to eat a nice south Indian brunch. I have to give credit to both our families who supported our decision to keep it simple and not spend a bucket load of money on a single day.

“We didn’t have a thaali /mangal sutra, we didn’t have an exchange of rings, and we didn’t buy ANY gold /diamonds /jewelry for this occasion. I wore artificial jewelry which I picked up at @hm / @Forever21 on both days, and did my own make up too. We didn’t book a giant hall or an expensive hotel for our wedding. We had the wedding in a temple, and the cocktail party at the Palm Grove Officer’s Institute.”
