Tamil director Cheran to boycott Amazon Prime’s The Family Man 2 series

Cheran to boycott The Family Man 2 webseries

Well-known National Award-winning director Cheran has announced that he will be boycotting the recently released web series, The Family Man 2, on OTT Platform Amazon Prime as the makers of the webseries had, in a wrong and vulgar manner, distorted and misrepresented the history of an organisation that had fought for the freedom of the Tamil community.

Taking to social media to voice his opinion against the web series and Amazon Prime, he said that he would unsubcribe and not subscribe to Amazon Prime until the OTT platform stopped airing the web series, which features Manoj Bajpayee, Samantha Akkineni and Priyamani in the lead.

The Family Man 2 has come in for criticism from various quarters in Tamil Nadu for the manner in which Tamils and the LTTE have been portrayed in it.

In particular, the sequence in which Tamil rebel leaders are shown joining hands with Pakistan’s ISI hasn’t gone down well with those in the state.

The manner in which Tamil politicians have been showcased in the series also hasn’t been to the liking of Tamil groups. A sequence in one of the episodes of the series that protrays a Tamil leader as being a puppet of the rebels, willing to carry out their wishes with regard to passing resolutions in the Indian Parliament, has irked them.

Apart from this, Tamil activists have taken exception to quite a few other sequences in the series.
