Fight over Uttama Villain: Kamal Hits back at Gnanavel Raja

Actor, producer and politician Kamal Haasan’s production house Raj Kamal Films has categorically stated that Kamal Haasan does not owe Rs 10 crores to producer Gnanavel Raja as was being claimed by a section of the media.

Raj Kamal Films International CEO N V Narayanan, in a statement issued this evening, said, “Raj Kamal Films vehemently denies all the rumours that are in circulation on Mr Gnanavel Raja having paid Mr Kamal Haasan Rs 10 crore at the time of release of Uttama Villain.Nothing can be farther from truth and all such allegations are made by people with certain vested interests. It is blatantly false and Mr Gnanavel did not pay any money to Kamal Haasan as is being alleged.”

The production house clarified that around 10 days ago, J Sathish Kumar, one of the members of the ad hoc committee of the Producer Council had got in touch with Raaj Kamal’s office seeking an appointment with Kamal Haasan regarding a letter issued by Raj Kamal to Tirupathi Brothers Film Media in furtherance to their request for Kamal’s dates.

Narayanan claimed that Kamal had agreed to allot his dates for Tirupathi Brothers and had agreed to make himself available for story discussion in the second week of May 2015. In spite of RKFI’s follow up, Tirupathi Brothers did not revert on this matter after that, he alleged.

“The news about Gnanavel Raja having paid Kamal Haasan Rs 10 crore towards the release of Uttama Villain is instigated now to deliberately tarnish the image of Kamal Haasan,” Narayanan claimed and pointed out that Raaj Kamal had got into an arrangement with Tirupathi Brothers Film Media Private Limited to produce the film Uttama Villain on a first copy basis.

Raaj Kamal completed its obligations and handed over the first copy to Tirupathi Brothers as agreed. He said, “There is no basis to say that Gnanavel paid Kamal Haasan to get the film released. There is no privity between Gnanavel or Kamal Haasan in any manner.”

The CEO ended the note in a warning tone, saying Raaj Kamal Films was evaluating legal options to proceed against those who were deliberately and mischievously planning to defame Kamal Haasan and Raaj Kamal Films International.
