IT Department raids Vishal’s VFF premises

Media had initially reported that the raids were by GST Intelligence Agency…

The Income Tax department on Monday raided the premises of actor Vishal’s production house, Vishal Film Factory (VFF).

Sources say the raid was conducted because of the actor’s firm reportedly not remitting Rs 51 lakh collected as TDS into the government account.

The IT team, which was led by an official called Venkatraman, left after they were assured by Vishal’s staff that they would pay the amount.

Earlier in the day, as soon as the raids began, it was wrongly construed by the media that the raids were being conducted by the GST Intelligence Agency.  However, the Director General of GST Intelligence, P V K Rajasekhar, quickly clarified that the Intelligence Agency had not conducted any search operations in the premises of Vishal Film Factory.

In a statement to the media, the DG of the Chennai Zonal Unit, said, “Certain news channels are circulating the news that the officers of DGGSTI Chennai Zonal Unit have searched the premises of Shri Vishal, who is the president of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council. It is to clarify that the officers of DGGSTI have not conducted any such search operations and the news which is being circulated is factually incorrect and false.”
