Jaya biopics: HC orders notices to directors A L Vijay, Gautham Menon

The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered notices to directors Gautham Vasudev Menon and A L Vijay and to producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri on a petition filed by J Deepa, the niece of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The former Chief Minister’s niece, in a civil suit, had prayed to the Court to restrain producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri and directors A L Vijay and Gautham Menon from making a biopic and a web-series respectively, based on her aunt’s life.

In her petition, Deepa pointed out that while Vijay and Induri intended to make a movie on her aunt and had picked Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut to play the role of Jayalalithaa, director Gautham Vasudev Menon had decided to make a web-series on her aunt’s life and had cast actress Ramya Krishnan in her aunt’s role.

She alleged that the film makers were proceeding only with monetary benefits in mind and with scant regard to the need to protect the privacy of individuals.

Stating that Jayalalitha’s life story could not be filmed without adding her life as part of the film, Deepa claimed that in such an event, it would amount to being an interference of her privacy as well.

Deepa said she was not aware of the story, script, screen play and dialogues of both the movie and the web serial.
