Kamal promises singing opportunity to rubber plantation worker Rakesh Unni!

Actor Kamal Haasan on Tuesday met rubber plantation worker Rakesh Unni Nooranaadu in person at his Makkal Needhi Maiam office in Teynampet and congratulated the singer on his ability to sing mellifluously and flawlessly.

Sources present on the occasion said that the actor has promised the rubber plantation worker from Kerala an opportunity to sing in his next film.

It may be recalled that Unni, a rubber plantation worker in Kerala, became a sensation on the Internet after a friend posted a video of him singing a song from Vishwaroopam during a work break in a rubber plantation.

The semi-classical song, Unnai Kaanadhu from Vishwaroopam, was rendered so beautifully and flawlessly by the singer that several people were charmed by it.

The video, which was shared across social networking platforms repeatedly, caught the attention of singer-musician Shankar Mahadevan, who too was impressed with the singer and expressed a desire to work with him.

Mahadevan tweeted, “This is called fruit of labour! When we hear this, it just makes me feel so so proud of our country that produces so much talent and is so rich in culture. Who is this guy??? How can I trace him? Need help & would like to work with him.”

Impressed with his rendition of the difficult number, Vignesh Shivan, one of Tamil cinema’s top director’s, posted the singer’s video on Twitter and tagged a number of top music directors including Anirudh, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Thaman, Devi Sri Prasad, Dharan, Sam CS and Ghibran.

He pleaded that they all must do whatever was possible for this singer.

He tweeted, “Wowww!!!! Jus wowww!!! Mr. Unni nooranaadu- His number – +91 8086106928 Paathu edha pannunga bosses.”

His request seems to have worked for several music directors are now getting in touch with Unni in the hope of working with him.
