M S Subbulakshmi’s great granddaughter sings first Tamil film song

Aishwarya, who is the great grand daughter of legendary singer M S Subbulakshmi, has sung her first song for the Tamil film Kural 146

The great granddaughter of one of India’s greatest Carnatic singers M S Subbulakshmi has turned sung her first Tamil film song.

Sources say that S Aishwarya sang her first song in the Tamil film industry for a film titled Kural 146.

Kural 146 is the feature film version of the short film Esha, which has been winning honours in several film festivals. The short film recently won honours at the Delhi Short Film Festival and the Dada Saheb Phalke film festival.

Directed by Uma Shankar, the film has music by Guru Kalyan, who made an impression with his score for the Tamil film Maathiyosi.

Says a source close to the unit of the film, “Work on the film has started with the recording of the first song. The song was chosen from among Siddhar Pattinathar’s works. It was recorded yesterday. The song was rendered by Aishwarya and the film’s music director Guru Kalyan. Stringed instruments form the base of the track, Annai Yethanai Yethanaiyoo. The film will feature five songs in all.”

The crew will begin shooting shortly. Christopher Joseph, who was the cinematographer for the short film, has been roped in as the cinematographer for the feature film as well.
