Stay sought against release of Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2

Well known production firm Pyramid Sai Meera has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the release of actor Kamal Haasan’s much awaited action thriller, Vishwaroopam 2.

The film, which is to release in several languages including Tamil and Hindi, is scheduled to hit screens on August 10.

Pyramid Sai Meera, in its petition before the High Court, has claimed that it entered into an agreement with RajKamal Films, a firm in which actor Kamal Haasan was a shareholder, in the year 2008 to make a film called Marmayogi at a cost of Rs 100 crore.

The deal was that Kamal Haasan would act, pen the story, screenplay and dialogues and also direct the film. As advance, Pyramid Sai Meera said it paid the actor a sum of Rs Four crore.

“However, the actor, instead of using the funds to make the movie Marmayogi, utilised it to make another movie called Unnaipol Oruvan. A case pertaining to this dispute has already been filed and is pending in court. Under these circumstances, the actor has now produced a film called Vishwaroopam 2 and is releasing it on August 10,” the petitioner alleged.

Pyramid Sai Meera, in its petition, prayed that orders must be issued to Kamal Haasan to repay the sum he had taken as advance with interest. This, the firm claimed, came to a sum of Rs 5.44 crore. The court, the petitioner prayed, must impose a stay on the release of Vishwaroopam 2 until the money was repaid.
