An era comes to an end as former TN CM Karunanidhi passes away!!

Five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and firebrand scriptwriter Muthuvel Karunanidhi, lovingly called Kalaignar Karunanidhi by all, passed away at the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai at 6.10 pm on Tuesday, leaving lakhs of his supporters in deep sorrow.

He was 94.

The Kauvery Hospital, where he was admitted for the last 11 days, issued a statement confirming the demise of the immensely popular Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Chief, who is acknowledged the world over as one of the top leaders of the Tamil community.

In the statement, the hospital said, “With deep anguish, we announce the demise of our beloved Kaliagnar Dr M Karunanidhi on 07.08.2018 at 6.10 pm. Despite the best possible efforts by our team of doctors and nurses to resuscitate him, he failed to respond.

“We profoundly mourn the loss of one of the tallest leaders of India and we share the grief of family members and fellow Tamilians worldwide.”

The entire state plunged into gloom as soon as news of the demise of the DMK patriarch broke out.

In particular, the Tamil film industry, from where he began his career as a scriptwriter, mourned inconsolably the loss of one of its greatest sons.

All activities in the Tamil film industry have come to a standstill. Shows in all theatres have been cancelled as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
