Thimirupidichavan’s decision to forcefully enter the fray forces Sei team to pull out of Nov 16 race
In what can only be termed unfair and unfortunate, the team of Nakul-starrer Sei has announced that they would be postponing their film’s release because of the unavailability of screens for a proper release.
The team of Sei had plans to release in 150 screens on November 16. However, with actor Vijay Antony’s Thimirupidichavan team suddenly announcing at the last minute that their film too would release on November 16, the number of screens promised to Sei came down from 150 to a mere 70.
It may be recalled that the Tamil Film Producers Council had only cleared Sei and three other Tamil films including the Jyothika-starrer Kaatrin Mozhi for release on November 16. The TFPC had not cleared Thimirupidichavan for a November 16 release.
Yet, the team of Thimirupidichavan announced that they will release their film on November 16, unmindful of the warning from the Tamil Film Producer Council, which had issued a statement recently saying it had given permission only for four films and that it would initiate action against the makers of any other film attempting to release on the said date.
Despite talks between the various parties, no accord could be reached and therefore, the smaller film, Sei, has had to pull out of the race for release on November 16.
Sei, which was ready for release in March this year, have been waiting their turn as per the Producer Council’s decision. Finally, they were given permission to release on November 16 and yet, they have had to pull out.
Announcing their decision to pull out, the makers of Sei, Trippy Turtle Productions, in a statement, said, “With great regret, we are sorry to announce that we are delaying the release of our movie Sei, starring Nakkhul, Aanchal, Nassar, Prakash Raj and Chandrika Ravi. The above is totally a force majeure due to the unavailability of screens for a full release worldwide with our desired number of screens.
“This above situation is due to the release of an unscheduled movie which was not permitted by TFPC.
“Trippy Turtle would like to specially thank President Vishal and TFPC, The Nadigar Sangam and all the distributors, theatres who have supported and guided us accordingly.”
