The Tamil Nadu government has written to the Centre, asking it to ban the release of the second season of the popular web series Family Man
The Tamil Nadu government has written to the Centre asking it to either stop or ban the release of the second season of the popular web series Family Man, which is to be released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime on June 4.
The web series, which features Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, also features actresses Priyamani and Samantha Akkineni in important roles.
In a letter addressed to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, the Tamil Nadu government said that it was drawing his attention to the “condemnable, in appropriate and malicious contents” of Family Man 2, which depicted “the Eelam Tamils in a highly objectionable manner.”
The Tamil Nadu government alleged that the trailer of the web series, which was released on social media, was aimed at discrediting and distorting the historical struggle of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Family Man 2 was loaded with insults and insinuations against Tamil culture, it claimed and said that one could not consider such a series to have any broadcast value.
Pointing out that the trailer of the series had already evoked strong and widespread opposition from both the people of Tamil Nadu and the parties in the state, the state government informed the Centre that if the series was allowed to be broadcast, it would be prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony in the state.
