Theepatti Ganesan passes away

Well known Tamil actor Theepatti Ganesan, who announced his arrival in the Tamil film industry with the film Renigunta, passed away at the Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai today.

The poor actor, who has acted in a number of Tamil films including the National award winning Thenmerkku Paruvakaatru, Neerparavai, Ajith’s Billa 2 and Kanne Kalaimaane, had been unwell for quite some time.

Theepatti Ganesan, whose pet name was Karthi, was languishing in poverty after film projects dried up a couple of years ago. He had begun working in a hotel to sustain himself and his family.

Last year, when the Covid crisis intensified, he made an emotional appeal for financial help, saying he was certain actor Ajith would help him if he got to know of his state of his distress. Seeing his message, actor Raghava Lawrence and lyricist Snehan had offered to help the actor financially.

The gifted actor made a telling impact with his powerful performance in Renigunta. Malayalam film fans would have seen this actor in Dulquer Salmaan’s Ustaad Hotel. He played one of the workers in Ustaad Hotel in the film.

National Award winning director Seenu Ramasamy expressed his condolences to those close to the actor.

He tweeted, “My heart broke when I got to know that a fine actor who had acted in my films, dear brother Karthi, also known as Theepatti Ganesan, passed away this morning at the Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai. My heartfelt condolences with love…”
