Varahi raises objections to Sri Reddy’s film

Tamil director and actor Varahi has objected to the making of Reddiyin Diary, a film featuring controversial Telugu actress Sri Reddy in the lead.

It may be recalled that Sri Reddy had triggered a storm in both the Tamil and Telugu film industries by levelling casting couch and sexual harassment allegations against several top heroes, directors and producers.

Varahi said, “It will be against our culture if such a film is made. They should not make her story into a film. If they persist with their attempts to make such a film, legal action will be taken to prevent their move. Moreover, it is condemnable that they have chosen to name the film ‘Reddyin Diary’. I have already written letters to the Tamil Film Producers’ Council, the Guild and the Film Chamber, urging them not to grant permission for such a title.”

Interestingly, Sri Reddy has already threatened of dire consequences if attempts are made to either block or hinder the making of her film.

The film, which is being directed by Aladdin and produced by Chithirai Selvan and Ravi Devan, will be a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. It will focus on the issue of casting couch. If one is to go by what the film’s producer Chithirai Selvan says, the film will feature some incidents that will be inspired by incidents in Sri Reddy’s life.

“Actresses who look for opportunities in the film industry are sexually harassed. I have disclosed my experiences in this context. The film, Reddiyin Diary, will focus on this issue of casting couch which is against actresses. I play an important role in this film. We will shine the light on cheats in the film industry who pretend to be Good Samaritans,” the actress had said.
