Vijay makes a loud statement by donating a whopping Rs 1.30 crore donation to PM, CMs relief Funds!
Actor Vijay has made a contribution and a huge one at that to the fight against the deadly Corona virus that is killing lakhs of people across the globe.
Vijay has donated a sum of Rs One crore and 30 lakhs to various government funds and private entities.
And like always, Vijay has made a statement through his actions.
First, we will give you the break up of his contributions and then tell you, why these contributions not only stand out but also send out a message.
The actor has contributed Rs 50 lakhs to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He has given Rs 25 lakhs to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and another 25 lakhs to the Film Employees Federation of South India.
This apart, the actor has donated Rs 10 lakhs to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He has also donated Rs 5 lakhs each to the Relief Funds of the Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Pondicherry.
So, what makes Vijay’s contributions significant? Is there a political statement that the actor is looking to make through these contributions?
It seems there is.
First and foremost, Vijay’s contribution to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is twice the sum that he has donated to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
More importantly, the actor hasn’t made the contribution to the PMCARES (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund. Instead, he has made it to the PM’s National Relief Fund. It may be recalled that the PM Cares fund was only recently set up as a public charitable trust by the present government in the Centre.
In fact, many including Congress President Sonia Gandhi have questioned the need to create this fund and have asked for it to be merged with the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, which already has a balance of Rs 3,800 crore.
