Vishawaroopam 2 to release as planned; Madras HC says no to Pyramid Saimira’s plea

Fans of actor Kamal Haasan can celebrate because Vishwaroopam 2 is to release as per plan tomorrow.

The Madras High Court has refused to issue a stay on the film’s release.

Yes, Pyramid Saimira, a production house, had filed a plea against Kamal Haasan in the Madras High Court, praying for a stay order on the film’s release as the actor owed it money.

In its plea, the company had claimed that it had entered into an agreement with Rajkamal Films International in the year 2008 to co-produce the film Marmayogi at a cost of Rs100 crore. According to the agreement, Kamal Haasan would act, direct and also write Marmayogi’s story, screenplay and dialogues. Pyramid Saimira Productions claimed that it released a sum of Rs 10.90 crore in two instalments to Rajkamal Films International as part of this deal.

The firm alleged that however, Kamal, instead of using the funds to make the movie, had utilised it to make another movie called Unnaipol Oruvan. It said that a case pertaining to this dispute had already been filed and that it was pending in court. Pyramid Saimira said the actor had now produced a film called Vishwaroopam 2 and was releasing it on 10 August. Pyramid Saimira urged the court to pass an injunction restraining Kamal from releasing the film, pending the disposal of the suit.

However, Justice Sundar, before whom the case came up for hearing today, refused to stay the release of the film and dismissed the civil suit.
