Nadigar Sangam mourns the demise of its oldest member, Karunanidhi

The South Indian Artistes Association better known as the Nadigar Sangam on Tuesday mourned the loss of one of its greatest sons, M Karunanidhi, who passed away at the Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Tuesday.

In its condolence message, the Nadigar Sangam said, “We deeply condone the demise of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, the godfather of Tamil arts and grammar and the seniormost lifetime member of the Nadigar Sangam, Thiru M Karunanidhi. After making his debut as a screenplay-dialogue writer, he entered politics and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu thrice and served the public. As a writer, there is nobody who has achieved as much as he has in cinema. It is important to recall that his dialogues were spoken about with the same passion as heroes were spoken about. Not just that. His dialogues are those that exist beyond time. His screenplays created heroes.

“When he was the Chief Minister, he executed several welfare schemes for the betterment of the Tamil film industry. Be it in the world of arts, in the world of cinema or politics, his dedication will last forever. His books like Kuraloviyam, Sanga Thamizh, Poompuhar, Nenjukku Needhi and Tholkaapiya Poonga are treasures that Tamil has got. His loss is a great loss to both the state of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil film industry. The SIAA family partakes in the sorrow of the great leader’s family and prays for his soul to rest in peace.”

All activities in the Tamil film industry have come to a standstill. Shows in all theatres have been cancelled as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
