Which short filmmaker will work with Suriya’s 2D next?

The winner of FirstClap is to be announced on Monday

Several theatre goers in Tamil Nadu were in for a pleasant surprise from March 10 to April 13. For, apart from the main film, they were also getting to watch an additional short film in theatres during this period.

Yes, five short films selected from over 250 entries were being screened during the intermission sessions of the main film in over 150 screens of the state. These five short films were the finalists of Moviebuff’s First Clap contest. First Clap, an initiative of Moviebuff, is India’s first theatrically showcased talent hunt for aspiring filmmakers.

To enter the contest, filmmakers had to make a short film of three minutes duration on any subject of their choice. Over 250 entries were received. From these entries, the judges including Cinematographer and director P C Sreeram, Director Ezhil,  Director Vetrimaran, Cinematographer Magesh Muthusamy,  Director Arun Kumar S U, CEO of 2D Entertainment Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian, Editor K L Praveen, and director Hari Vishwanath, shortlisted five short films as the finalists. The five films that made it to the final round were Think and Ink (directed by Nattu Dev), Ennanga Sir Unnga Sattam (directed by Prabhu Jeyaram), Intha Naal Inniya Naal ( directed by Magesh Balasubramaniam),  Appa Lock (directed by Pradeep Ranganathan) and Ival Azhagu (directed by Sri Vijay Ganapathy). The public were asked to vote for films they thought were best. Based on their votes, the films rankings were decided.

Now, the winner of this contest is to be announced on Monday at a grand event at Sathyam cinemas. The top three shortfilms will win cash prizes.

While the winner will take home a prize money of Rs Three lakh, the first runner-up  will get Rs Two lakh and the second runner-up will win a lakh.  The winner will get an opportunity to narrate their script to actor Suriya’s  2D Entertainment and an opportunity to intern at 2D Entertainment as well!
