Women must not misuse #MeToo movement: Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth has said that women must not misuse the #MeToo movement and must make correct use of it.

Talking to reporters at the airport here in Chennai, the actor said that shooting for his upcoming film with director Karthik Subbaraj, Petta, had been completed. “The shooting was supposed to get over on November 6 but the unit put in hard work and we were able to complete it before that period,” Rajinikanth informed and added that Petta would be a complete entertainer.

When his attention was drawn to the #MeToo movement, Rajinikanth said, “This is a movement that is favourable to the women. They must not misuse it. They should use it correctly.” When pointed out that singer Chinmayi had levelled allegations against even lyricist Vairamuthu, Rajini replied, “Yes, but Vairamuthu has denied it. Is it not? He has said that nothing of that sort has happened and that he has evidence to prove it. He has also asked them to file a case.”

When another scribe asked Rajinikanth if whether the #MeToo movement had his support, Rajinikanth replied, “It is a movement that is useful for women. They must make correct use of it.”

The actor was also grilled on his take on the Supreme Court’s decision to allow women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala. When asked about it, Rajini replied, “There can be no two opinions on whether women should have equal rights in everything. But when you talk about temples, there will be traditions, there will be a procedure. It is my humble opinion that nobody should interfere with that.”

Does that mean that one should ignore the SC order? Rajini replied, “It is not like that. What I am saying is that certain issues like those that pertain to religion and customs, things should be done carefully and with care.”

The actor also trashed reports that claimed that he would be announcing his party on December 12, his birthday this year. He said, “I am not announcing my party on December 12. But 90 percent of work pertaining to starting my party is done. I will look at an appropriate time and announce it.”
