Here is why director S Jayakumar’s upcoming sports film ‘Blue Star’ is garnering attention!

This film tells the story of a group of youngsters from a small village near Arakonnam who are passionate about the sport. It will shine the light on the struggles of those from the oppressed sections who are looking to make a mark in the sport.

Director Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions, which is known for producing hard-hitting meaningful films that hold a mirror to society, is next producing a film called Blue Star in association with Lemon Leaf Productions.

The film, which has been directed by S Jayakumar, revolves around the sport of cricket and features actors Ashok Selvan, Shanthanu Baghyaraj and Prithvi in the lead.

Sources close to the unit say that the film has been completed and is to hit screens on January 25th this year.

Says a source, “Cricket has become so popular that even those in remote villages and small towns play it with passion. This film tells the story of a group of youngsters from a small village near Arakonnam who are passionate about the sport. It will shine the light on the struggles of those from the oppressed sections who are looking to make a mark in the sport.”

Interestingly, Shanthanu, Ashok Selvan and Prithvi are all cricket players in real life.

Apart from these actors, the film will also feature Keerthi Pandian, Divya Duraisamy, Lissy Antony, Elango Kumaravel, Bagavathi Perumal and Arun Balaji among others.

Adds the source,”This film will talk about the lives, love, politics and the social fabric of this region. In fact, all the actors have undergone such a huge transformation that one can safely say that they actually turned into people of the region for the film.”

The source also informs that the film is highly likely to appeal to youngsters, former and present cricket players. “In fact, it is sure to impress people of all age groups,” he adds.

With music by Govind Vasantha and cinematography by Thamizh A Azhagan, the film has two co-directors in Yoganand Balaraman and K Kalidoss.

“We’ve made an entertainer that will appeal to people of all age groups,” says director Jayakumar very modestly. But it won’t be an exaggeration to say that his film has triggered huge expectations and is being eagerly awaited by the critics.
