G V Prakash inaugurates crowdfunding initiative to help families affected by Ockhi

The idea is to help 500 families badly hit by the Ockhi cyclone….

Music director and Actor G V Prakash, who is known for his altruistic efforts, has done something commendable.

The actor has inaugurated a crowdfunding initiative to help fishermen’s families in Kanniyakumari, which was badly affected by the recent cyclonic storm Ockhi.

Giving out details of this effort, G V Prakash’s friend and social activist, Gunasekaran, said, “The crowdfunding initiative has been launched on the Internet platform Edhudharma. The idea is to provide help to the families of fishermen and farmers, who were badly affected by Ockhi. The entire southern coast of Tamil Nadu, in general and the fishermen and farmers of Kanyakumari in particular have been badly hit.”

It is for the first time that such a crowd funding effort to help victims of a cyclone in the region is being undertaken.

Explaining how such an initiative came into being, Gunasekaran says, “Recently, when G V Prakash went to visit the cyclone-affected areas, he was moved by the plight of a woman called Selvarani from Chinnathurai, who had lost everything because of the cyclone. So, he helped her. Looking at the help he offered her, others who were also badly affected began hoping he would do something to help them as well. That was when we arrived at this crowd funding initiative through the internet platform Edhu Dharma. Through our volunteers there, we have made a list of 500 people who require help badly and for a start, we hope to raise Rs 15 lakhs through crowdfunding to help them. When we presented the idea to GV Prakash, he not only donated to the cause but also inaugurated the initiative.”

This is not the first time that G V Prakash is donating to such a cause. The actor and music director has helped an athelete called Kathiravan. He has also donated a substantial sum to build restrooms in government schools.
