It’s official! EC rejects Vishal’s nomination!

Bringing to an end a day of intense political drama, the Election Commission late on Tuesday night announced that it had rejected actor Vishal’s nomination to the RK Nagar by-poll that is scheduled to be held on December 21.

Interestingly, the official announcement came just hours after the actor claimed that his nomination to the R K Nagar by-polls had finally been accepted.

In fact, the actor even took to Twitter to tweet the news.

He tweeted, “After much struggle, my nomination for the RK Nagar election is finally accepted…Truth Always Triumphs !! In Truth, I Trust & In Youngsters, I Believe….God Bless !!”

It all began in the evening with the Returning Officer rejecting Vishal’s nomination after it was found that two of the signatures on Vishal’s nomination papers were allegedly forged.

As soon as news broke out that his nomination had been rejected, the actor staged a dharna along with his supporters.

Senior police officials held talks with the actor and tried to pacify him. On their assurance, the actor and his supporters withdrew their dharna and accompanied them to meet the Returning Officer Veluchamy and plead their case.

Vishal is believed to have told the Returning Officer that the reason why two of those who had proposed his nomination had backtracked was because of being threatened. The actor claimed to have audio tapes of these two people being threatened by AIADMK candidate Madhusudhanan’s supporters.

After the meeting with the Returning Officer, the actor claimed his nomination had been accepted. However, until this point, there was no official confirmation from the Election Commission.

Late in the night, the Election Commission, through Returning Officer Veluchamy, announced that the actor’s nomination was rejected as the two people whose signatures are alleged to have been forged – Deepan and Sumathi– had testified that they had not proposed Vishal’s candidature.

A stunned Vishal addressed the media late in the night. On getting to know the Election Commission’s decision, the actor said, “It is a mockery of democracy. If they won’t let me contest, I will pick a youngster and make him win. I will do everything to support and help a youngster win and thereby serve the people.”
