Vishal’s nomination for R K Nagar by-poll rejected; Cheran withdraws protest

The returning officer of the RK Nagar By poll Veluchamy today said that actor Vishal’s nomination was rejected as his nomination papers had two signatures that were allegedly forged.

In a stunning development, the Returning officer of the R K Nagar By-poll Veluchamy tonight announced that the nomination of actor Vishal, who is also the President of the Tamil Film Producers Council and the Secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, had been rejected.

The reason cited for the rejection was that two of the signatures on Vishal’s nomination papers were allegedly found to be impersonated.

As soon as the news broke out, the actor staged a dharna along with his supporters.

Senior police officials held talks with the actor and tried to pacify him. On their assurance, the actor and his supporters withdrew their dharna and accompanied them to meet the Returning Officer and plead their case.

Vishal is believed to have told the Returning Officer that the reason why two of those who had proposed his nomination had backtracked was because of being threatened. The actor claimed to have video tapes of these two people being threatened by rival factions.

Meanwhile, on getting to know that Vishal’s nomination for the RK Nagar by-poll had been rejected, Cheran and the other producers who were staging a sit-in dharna at the Producer Council office, withdrew their protest.
