Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Jayam Ravi’s son in, Amala Paul out!

There’s more news from the camp of director Mani Ratnam’s upcoming magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan.

Apparently, the team has now okayed actor Jayam Ravi’s son, Arav, to play an important role in the film, which will be based on the classic by Kalki.

It may be recalled that Arav had made his debut in the Tamil film industry through his dad Jayam Ravi’s film called Tik Tik Tik, which incidentally also happens to be India’s first space film.

Although it is unclear at this point as to what role young Arav will play, sources say that it will be an important one.

Meanwhile, rumours doing the rounds in the industry indicate that Amala Paul, who was initially being considered for a role in the project, won’t be a part of it.

Some say the actress did audition for a role but then, wasn’t chosen as her look did not fit the part.

The team is to begin shooting for the film on December 12 in Bangkok, Thailand.
