Will Rajini’s Darbar hit screens on Jan 9?

All eyes are on the Madras High Court which has reserved its judgement on a plea filed by a Malayasian firm seeking a stay on the release of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar.

DMY Creations SDN BHD filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court alleging that Lyca, the producers of Darbar, owed it Rs 23.70 crores for having distributed its earlier films like 2.0, Kaala and Vadachennai in Malaysia.

DMY Creations claimed that Lyca had promised that it would clear this pending sum before the release of Darbar. It also claimed that Lyca had promised them the territorial rights of Darbar for Malaysia.

However, the Malaysian firm alleged that it had learnt that Lyca had been holding negotiations with some others over granting the distribution rights of the film for Malaysia. The Malaysian firm told the court that the chances of recovering its money would become slim if the court does not restrain Lyca from releasing Darbar before settling its dues.

Lyca, for its part, called the claims of DMY Creations as being false and baseless and said that Lyca did not owe DMY Creations any money at all and that the plea had been filed only to harass it ahead of the release of its high stakes movie, Darbar.

After hearing the arguments of both sides, the judge, G Jayachandran, reserved orders on the suit.
