Just when you wonder how director Shankar is going to fascinate you a second time with a plot, the secrets of which you have already been let into in the first part, he comes up with an interesting storyline that wins him your attention.

The story…

Indian 2 begins with its focus on a bunch of young social media professionals who run a youtube channel called Barking Dogs. The unit, which is led by Chitra Aravindan (Siddharth), is intent on fighting social injustice and tends to act as whistleblowers, highlighting instances of injustice, indiscipline and corruption in society.

They highlight a series of issues and everytime, despite their best efforts, justice does not get served. At one point, the four-member team of Barking Dogs turns despondent and wishes that the Indian Thatha (Grandpa) returns to weed out corruption in the country.

To make him know that the country needs him, they make the hashtag #ComeBackIndian trend. The Indian sees their cries for help and chooses to return — to weed out corruption a second time. What happens then is what the film is all about.

To make a superhit film is an incredibly difficult challenge. What is an even more difficult challenge, is making a sequel to it that is as good as the first part.
You have to give it to Shankar for having delivered a second part that is almost as good as the first. And therefore, make no mistake about it, Indian 2 is good.

The second part ends at a very interesting juncture and you know that the third part that is to come will for sure have a lot of engaging sequences to offer.

One other reason, Shankar has to be complimented is for his keen eye and observant nature. Indian 2’s storyline cleverly covers everything from glass planes in the airport coming crashing down to corrupt businessmen who turned billionaires using commodes made of gold to relieve themselves. And the best part is, the story doesn’t turn boring at any given point.

Performances:

Kamal Haasan as always does a fantastic job as Senapathy. In fact, his performance is even better than the one he came up with in part One.

Bobby Simha, as the investigating officer intent on nabbing Senapathy, is equally impressive.

Rakul Preet Singh, who plays Siddharth’s love interest, comes up with a powerful performance that makes her stand out.

Siddharth looks perfect in the first half of the film. However, he appears less than perfect in the second half. Siddharth’s performance goes a tad over the meter, especially in places where he has turn emotional after a distressing event takes place in his family.

Priya Bhavani Shankar and Jagan deliver neat performances that add value to the film.

Anirudh’s music, as always, amplifies the emotion on screen and adds immense value to the film.

In short, Indian 2 is definitely worth your time and money.
