We are sorry, says Theeran Adhigaram Ondru team

Theeran Adhigaram Ondru, featuring actors Karthi and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead, released a week ago to rousing reception from the Tamil audience.

The film, which is based on a real life incident, tells the story of how a team of police officers from Tamil Nadu took it upon themselves to track and bring to justice a bunch of dreaded dacoits who were wanted in a number of brutal killings across seven states of the country. It has not only been doing roaring business in the state but has come in for widespread praise from the critics. However, some people have taken exception to the usage of a word in the film.

In the film, the dacoits from the north, were shown as belonging to a tribe whose main occupation was robbing and looting. The team had, through animation, traced back the origin of the tribe in the film. In this regard, the team had used the word Kutra Parambarai during the film’s promotions. However, the usage of the word had not gone down well with some people who felt offended by the word.

Keeping in mind their sentiments, the team, including its director Vinoth, has tendered an unconditional apology for the usage of the word and has announced that in future, when the film is released on television and on the internet, the word and the book scenes in which the details are put out will be removed from the film.

In a statement issued to the media, the team said, “This film has been made on the basis of the different dacoities that took place in different states of the country. We have not showcased any particular tribe or community in bad light in Theeran Adhigaram Ondru. No community has murder and looting as its ancestral profession. We have not showcased any community in such a fashion in this film. However, as we feel that the sentiments of some might be hurt, we not only tender an apology on behalf of the Theeran Adhigaram Ondru team but also express regret for the hurt it might have caused. We hereby announce that we are removing the word and the book scenes from the film’s television version and the Internet version.”
